Method 1: The string technique (To measure circumference)
This is the most popular method if you don't have a ring that fits the finger you want to adorn.
Materials needed:
- A non-stretchy string (or a thin strip of paper 1 cm wide).
- A fine-point pen.
- A millimeter ruler.
Steps to follow:
- Wrap the string or paper strip around your finger, at the second knuckle (the widest point). It should be snug, but not too tight.
- Mark with a precise pen stroke where the string overlaps.
- Unroll the string and lay it flat on your ruler.
- Measure the distance in millimeters between the end and your pen mark.
Method 2: The ruler technique (To measure diameter)The jewelry rule: The length in millimeters directly corresponds to the French ring size. If your measurement is 52 mm, your size is 52! If you fall between two sizes (e.g., 53 mm), always choose the next size up (54).
If you already have a ring that fits the target finger perfectly, this method is the quickest and most accurate.
Materials needed:
- Your favorite ring.
- A ruler.
Steps to follow:
- Place your ring flat on a table.
- Place the ruler on the ring, aligning it perfectly with the widest point of the inside of the band.
- Measure only the inside diameter (do not include the thickness of the metal in your calculation).

Materials needed:

Steps to follow:
- Download our online ring sizer and print it on a standard A4 sheet.
- ⚠️ Important note: Make sure the print scale is set to 100% (without fitting to page) in your printer settings. A 5 cm control line is present on the document to verify the accuracy of the print with your ruler.
- Place your ring over the different circles drawn on the paper.
- Find the circle that perfectly matches the size of your ring. The black line of the circle should touch the inside of the ring, without being obscured by the metal. If the circle extends beyond, the size is too large. If it is hidden, it is too small.
3 artisan tips for perfect measurement
Measuring your finger requires some precision. Since the human body is constantly changing, here's what our master jewelers advise you to keep in mind:
- Pay attention to the temperature: Your fingers react strongly to the climate. They tend to swell in summer (with the heat) or at the end of the day, and thin out in winter (with the cold). Take your measurement preferably at the end of the day in a room at ambient temperature.
- Don't forget the knuckle: The ring should be able to pass over the knuckle (the middle phalanx) without forcing it, but without being too loose once in place. If your knuckle is visibly wider than the base of your finger, take a measurement at the base and a measurement at the knuckle, then choose the average of the two.
- Consider the width of the band: A very wide band or a bulky ring (like our "L'Édit Pourpre" dome ring) will fit more snugly than a very thin band. If you fall for an imposing or thick model, we recommend adding one size larger than your usual size for optimal comfort.
